Briefly stated, these core truths affirm that God took the initiative through the work of Jesus Christ to rescue humanity from the sin that separates us from him and taught us how to serve faithfully in our restored relationship with him.
Reinforcing the Foundations is a collection of textual studies that call readers to see God clearly, take the power of sin seriously, experience the joy of salvation fully, and renew our commitment to service.
Each chapter encourages readers to think more deeply about its specific theme in the hope that they will seek out other texts that emphasize it and further deepen their understanding of God, sin, salvation, and service. Questions at the end of each chapter facilitate additional reflection and discussion.

The Glory Due His Name: Collected Sermons on Worship
Now available in paperback and ebook
"Christian worship is the most momentous, the most urgent, the most glorious action that can take place in human life." ~ Karl Barth
At a time when worship remains the subject of what are often passionate conversations in the church, we need to think more about worship, not merely its forms and what may or may not be appropriate in its performance, but about what our worship should be. The sermons collected for this series were prepared to help one church reflect on worship’s importance, nature, and elements. The title and three major topic designations for the collection are derived from Psalm 96:4, 8.
- The importance of worship: “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised” (Psalm 96:4a)
- The attitude and approach we bring to worship: “he is to be feared above all gods” (Psalm 96:4b)
- The actions we perform in communal worship: “bring an offering … into his courts!” (Psalm 96:8b)

Questions of Jesus' identity and the authenticity of Christianity as the one true religion challenged ancient people; doubts still exist for humanity today.
Luke's gospel, the longest of the four canonical gospels, was written to give "an orderly account" of the things Jesus did to fulfill God's purposes so his readers could know the truth concerning the things they had been taught (Luke 1:1-4).
This 580-page commentary presents an introduction
to Luke's gospel, a verse-by-verse exposition of
chapters 1-9, and applications for use in sermon and Bible class preparation.

Imagine being given several small oddly shaped, differently colored, random puzzle pieces and told to assemble the picture they form when correctly assembled. How much easier will it be if you also have a copy of the complete picture the assembled puzzle depicts?
Beginning Bible students can feel like they have been given the pieces but not the picture. They open the Bible to find a collection of different writings and styles that refer to distant and unfamiliar people, places, and customs. Sometimes the writings seem repetitive; at other times they seem to jump from one idea to another.
It is easier to understand the Bible if we already have an idea about its purpose, how its parts fit together, and the plot of the overarching story it tells. Getting Acquainted with the Bible introduces the Bible’s big picture, purpose, and parts, giving an overview of the big picture that give the details their meaning.
This 144-page primer explains:
- How the Bible is different from other books
- Why we should study the Bible
- Why its various parts are written in different styles
- How its grand story is developed
- How its different sections fit together to complete the story it tells
Both first-time readers and those who would like a review will find it helpful. It can be used in:
- Church youth & adult classes, especially for newcomers
- A personal evangelism resource to give to novice students
- Introductory courses in Christian high schools or universities (questions for review and discussion are included at the end of each chapter)
- Prison ministries or similar settings where knowledge of the Bible's makeup and story may be minimal
Endorsements for Getting Acquainted with the Bible
It is not often you can find a book that can explain the history of the Old and New Testament for a new adult Christian. This book is written in a simplistic manner that does not intimidate new converts. It is also a great refresher course for teens to have an overview of their Bible knowledge. ~ Tami Heffington, Bible School Teacher, Thompson’s Station, TN
I really like the down-to earth, basic approach that assumes nothing. I probably should have had something like this during my 30 years of teaching! ~ Dr. James T. South, Pulpit Minister, Glen Allen church of Christ, Glen Allen, VA
Some scholars are not preachers, and some preachers are not scholars. David Anguish successfully fills both roles. He is a preacher-scholar who is also an excellent writer.
As preacher, Anguish understands the need of dedicated people in the pew who long to understand the Bible but aren’t sure how to get there. Like the Ethiopian in Acts 8, they ask, “How can I [understand], unless someone guides me?” Sensing their frustration, he has written with scholarly precision, Getting Acquainted with the Bible: Its Makeup, Purpose, and Story.
David Anguish approaches his writing like missionaries who begin a Bible study with someone who has little or no knowledge of the Scriptures. He answers basic questions about the Bible and provides “how to” information that opens the door to the entire book from Genesis to Revelation. Interestingly, his approach also provides an excellent refresher course for those who have spent a lifetime studying the Bible.
The author includes thoughtful review questions at the end of each chapter to assist the individual student or Bible teacher who chooses Getting Acquainted with the Bible as a textbook for classroom study. In the final section, Anguish suggests additional resources for readers who desire to go still deeper in their biblical studies.
David Anguish is, indeed, a preacher-scholar. As preacher, he has made the book interesting and understandable. As scholar, he has provided dependable and carefully researched information. I highly recommend this study to Christians everywhere. ~ Howard W. Norton, Ph.D., Retired professor of Bible & Missions, Harding University, Searcy, AR
I believe David has met a real need in writing Getting Acquainted with the Bible. Not only novices, but people who have listened to sermons and attended Bible classes for many years can benefit from this book. They may know the stories and understand basic doctrine--but how does all of this fit together? David helps guide us into understanding the “big picture,” and how God was at work throughout history preparing a people and a land for the coming of Christ.
I truly hope this book finds a wide audience, because I believe it contains information every student of the Bible should know. ~ Greg Smith, Lebanon, TN, Preacher & Educator, Sales Representative, Gumdrop Books
David Anguish's "Getting Acquainted with the Bible" is not written in a traditional survey style. It's subtitle ... "It's Makeup, Purpose, and Story" gives you an idea that there is more to this work than a book by book analysis. Several sections are followed by special studies that enhance the material previously presented. I enjoyed his approach in Chapter 7 on "The Fulness of Time" - [it] fills a gap that most Bible students ignore and does it in a masterful way. At the end of the book there are additional resources given and encouraging words that say "You Can Do This", that is you can understand the Bible. Again, it is not a survey, but it gives the reader an understanding of Bible background and history that gives the study of scripture life. I heartily recommend it both for personal study and for use in the classroom. ~ Edwin Myers, Minister, Velvet Ridge Church, Bald Knob, AR, Missionary in China 10 years
